Keratosis Pilaris BEWARE!

Please check out my newest post on skin problems that is ALSO saying bye bye to my KP!
http://aktoidsimpsons.blogspot.com/2014/03/kp-psoriasis-rosecea-eczema-acne.html

After having KP for many many years ..... (Who am I kidding- My WHOLE life) I 'think' I may have found something that will actually clear it up!!!

I found this little recipe on a blog yesterday, made it last night and tried it this morning in the shower.  The lady on the blog (like me) says she has tried for years, everything on the market and nothing helps.  I have found that a lot of time in the sun or tanning bed helps, but other than that, its like I'm doomed.  So anyway.  Here is the process and not only is it simple, it's inexpensive and forget needing moisturizer after you shower either!

Directions:
  • Once in shower, get skin wet.
  • Put a couple tablespoons of Braggs Organic ACV (with the mother) on a damp washcloth and wipe arms, legs, wherever with the washcloth (Don't worry- you won't smell like vinegar when we're done)
  • Rinse
  • Take a small amount of Coconut Sugar Scrub (See Below) and gently exfoliate kp.
  • Rinse
The Blog said that she saw results after about a week or so..... I'll update my progress as well!

Sugar Scrub

Mix equal parts regular granulated sugar and coconut oil (REAL).  I did 1 cup of each.

  1. I found you through Pinterest. I'm going to give this a try. I've had KP all my life too and haven't found anything except (like you said) tanning that helps.

Thanks for posting! Can't wait to try it!

    1. I am going to try this as well but if you need something stronger you can get a something called Ammonium Lactate or Lachydrin as a prescription or an over the counter formula at the drug store.

    2. I do know about ammonium lactate. I have never had success with it as it seems to dry the skin out. The other thing I like about the acv and coconut sugar scrub is that there are no chemicals. If you wouldn't put it in your body then don't put it on your body (I try to live by that :)

    3. I agree, I don't put anything on my body that I wouldn't put in it. Problem is, I don't consume refined sugars. Do you think I could use sea salt or coconut sugar? I'm thinking salt scrub, I would imagine, long term, that sugar would make it worse, as KP is like acne, and sugar makes acne flair up. Just a thought.

    4. Thanks for that input!!! I have tried salt instead of sugar. This is what I have found:
-A mixture of Coarse rock salt & Fine red sea salt along with Olive Oil makes a great scrub for your hands or feet, especially when chapped (think winter months).
      - IF you use Salt on KP, it is HARSH. IT actually doesn't do what you are intending to do, rather worsens the situation and makes your whole body sting!
      - Yes, sugar exastrabates acne, but since KP is NOT acne, I wouldn't worry about it. This 'KP scrub is NOT intended for the face. I've never used coconut sugar, but as long as it has a gentle exfoliating factor, it probably would work.

My theory about not putting anything ON your body that you wouldn't put IN your body is basically saying that if you can't ingest it, you shouldn't put it on the largest organ :) You won't have any digestive issues or gain weight through osmosis of using sugar as a scrub.

      Hope that helps :)

  2. I had only done it one time and it seems to REALLY work! I am thrilled! Braggs ACV is a miracle- so is coconut oil, but I owe so much to Braggs ACV and all the things it can do!

  3. I actually started using the toning body butter from Passion Parties about 3 months ago. I just use it after the shower on my arms and legs and it's been working so far! And my skin is super soft!

  4. I get a prescription that works pretty well. It's a lotion called Lachydrin or Ammonium Lactate (generic) and you can now get a lower dosage over the counter at your drug store. It works but you have to apply it twice a day. Though I have all the above ingredients from doing the paleo diet so I will definitely give this a try. Never hurts, right?!

    1. This actually DOES work! You need to be consistant with it though. I think the best part about it is that you do not need lotion at all.....

  6. Hey how many times did u do it a week

  7. I do it every other day. It seems to be almost immediate effects. The redness goes away (From the vinegar) and the coconut oil leaves your skin nice and moisturized.

  8. So that what this is. I thought they were shaving bumps or a rash I would like to give this a try. I have them all over.

  9. I have struggled with KP since I was a small child and NOTHING has worked for me. I've been to the dermatologist dozens of times and nothing they have given me to try has worked. Not even a little bit. So I am going to try this today and see if it works! I will report back with my results!! Fingers crossed!

  10. Just made a scrub of my own to try. 1/2 cup white sugar, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1 tsp Vit E (just pierced the capsules and measured out the 1 tsp), 1/2 cup olive oil. Hoping this work. KP is the worst. I hate it. : (

    1. You make the sugar scrub. if you skip that, I am afraid you may smell like vinegar :( I wouldn't reccommend this without that step!

    2. Can I substitute the coconut oil, I don't have any and I don't mind the smell as long as my bumps go away!

    1. Hola!

    1. You could do this as many times in a week as you like. I suggest no more than 3 times in a 7 day period though.

  15. After the scrub should I also use my regular bar of soap?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. There is no need to cleanse after the scrub. Honestly, having KP, I wouldn't use bar soap on my body---- just my personal preference.

  16. Do you recommend this for babies, say 12 months old?

    1. I would not suggest treating KP on a 12 month old, no.

  17. I've had KP my whole life & have used both Amlactin and the CeraVe Renewing SA cream on it. Unfortunately, I can't stand lotion, so the use of it doesn't last longer than a couple of days and I've never used it long enough to know if it acually works. I decided to try your suggestions because I've heard especially great things about using coconut oil on KP. I just made this coconut sugar scrub today and bought some Braggs ACV & I'll use it next time I take a shower! Thanks a bunch! :D

  18. I just found this through Pinterest and I'm going to try this. I hate my KP and I have tried everything else with no luck I'm hoping this will be it. Thanks :)

    1. You can rinse the vinegar right away and as soon as you are done scrubbing with the sugar scrub, rinse right away also. No need to leave on for any period of time.

  21. I've experienced this too, and I've got to admit it. It's very frustrating! I've made a thorough research about it on google, applied some methods (some worked, and some didn't). I made some compilation of prevention methods and remedies that worked for me. But I'll ask for your permission first if it's okay with you to post the link? :)
